Expecting a new baby? Don’t forget to book a newborn session beforehand. There is nothing quite like those first two weeks with your baby. You’ll spend time looking over every crease and fingernail and wonder how those small details will develop over time. It’s a time of discovery and profound love. It’s also a time of no sleep and abrupt crying for no reason, I get it. But, please don’t let that get in the way of you having these early days documented!
Are you wondering how an in-home newborn session works? Well, here’s a quick rundown;
I arrive and take off my shoes, because it’s likely I’ll be standing on at least one of your beds or chairs during our session. (see how polite I am, I take off my shoes!) If there are siblings, I always begin by hanging out with them first. We chat and play, all the while I’m snapping photos of them and they are getting used to me and my monstrous camera. They generally are quite helpful in giving me a tour of the home, which is great because this allows me to take mental notes of where the “good light” is in your home. Once we’re all comfy with one another, I’ll suggest some specific spots where I’d like your family to hang out. And by hang out, I mean play, read, get rowdy, get cuddly, whatever feels natural for you and your gang. Maybe you’re a family who enjoys throwing your kids in the air and tickle fights. Or perhaps, you enjoy a more calm activity like reading “Knuffle Bunny” or “Love You Forever” (but hey, if you read that one I’m guaranteed to need a HUGE box of tissues). Maybe you like both rowdy and calm activities!!! Great, me too! We change locations and family members every so often to get a variety of shots. If this is your first baby, I’ll still guide you to the places in your home where I see great backdrops, light, and/or color. You can feed the baby, (I LOVE photographing nurslings), wrap the baby, lay with your baby, change the baby, cuddle the baby, sing to the baby, rock the baby, etc. We can take photos of his/her nursery and make sure we capture its beauty before baby is old enough to undo all of your hard work. Hehe. We wrap up the session by making sure all the photos you wanted were taken and that’s it! It’s really casual and stress-free!
Even if YOU aren’t expecting, you can certainly gift a session to someone who is! Just contact me below and together, we can create a custom package for your special recipient. What a great baby-shower gift that would be, right?
Here is the latest newborn session I photographed in Königstein. I hope your session is next on my calendar!
